Abstract

Despite, the importance played by on-the-job trainers in the daily training of apprentices there is a lack of studies focusing on them (Bahl, 2012; Baumeler, Lamamra, & Schweri, 2014; Capdevielle et al., 2013; Mulder, 2013;). This contribution is based on the SNF research project (FNS 100017_153323) and in particular on the PhD thesis taking part of it focused on the trajectories and experiences of these “forgotten actors” of dual VET in the Frenchspeaking part of Switzerland. The aim of this contribution is to shed light on how we become on-the-job-trainer in order to illustrate possible careers in the dual VET system. In this purpose, our research questions are following: first, what have on-the-job trainer’s trajectories been before they assume the training function? Second, what do on-the-job trainer’s trajectories reveal in terms of social and professional mobility and what meaning do these persons give to them? Third, how do these trajectories inform us in terms of possible "careers" in VET?
