Abstract

Promising diagnostic and therapeutic technologies as well as disruptive Infor-mation and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are transforming the healthcare sector significantly. In this chapter, I bring to light an innovative solution devel-oped by the Swiss multisite hospital EOC, which has introduced the use of drones to transport blood and pathology samples between two of its hospitals in collabo-ration with Swiss Post and Matternet, a Silicon Valley company. Furthermore, I point up the main key success factors of this project in order to provide the read-ers with useful generalizable prompts. Finally, I develop a tool (the BIOSF model) that could be useful for the organizations that need to evaluate either the devel-opment or the adoption of new technologies, and I briefly go through other ad-vances in technology that are currently shaping this sector.
