This paper reports the case history of a business conceived and started in 2000 with the aim of becoming a major provider of GPS chipsets to producers of personal navigation devices and, later, mobile phones. After several years of operation, having raised consistent venture capital and introduced several acclaimed products, the company ceased to exist in 2009. The story of the business is reconstructed based on accounts of the company’s founders. The aim of this paper is to provide a rich description of the process of the formation of a business and, in particular, to illustrate how the development of a new business depends on the consequences the emergence of a new business have for the assets of the major players in the new venture’s business network.
