Abstract

Energy consumption and indoor air quality are closely linked, especially in crowded buildings such as schools. This project aims to provide a complete overview of CO2 and temperature levels in the classrooms of primary and pre-schools in the municipality of Lugano. More than 100 classrooms are live-monitored thanks to the sensors installed. The monitoring is still ongoing, and some initial analyses show air quality levels most of the time within admissible ranges, with episodes of overheating. The next phase of the project will be to better assess thermal comfort and to use CO2 and temperature to indirectly assess occupancy, which will be linked to energy consumption.
