Abstract
Improving writing skills of the younger generation is one of the most important and difficult goals to achieve for each teacher of compulsory education. The results of recent surveys (the two projects of the Swiss National Fund for Scientific Research called TIscrivo and TIscrivo2.0) highlight the recurrent difficulties of the learners and stimulate an educational effort, in order to find effective and rewarding alternatives to traditional strategies. The paper shows, using concrete examples, the features of some educational paths characterized by a setting design and a close link between reading activities, discussion, writing and revision in the writing process. These educational projects have been tested in primary school and in teacher education in Canton Ticino to serve the dual purpose of motivating students and of rethinking the teaching of writing, putting it into the broader process of developing all language skills.
