Abstract
The chapter presents in a first part a theoretical discussion on the potential contributions of citizenship education for the development of the students’ sense of political and social membership. As the authors argue, practicing citizenship education is fundamental to build a more peaceful, just and democratic city in which to live. In the second part the authors delve into action, resuming an innovative module of citizenship education set up and successfully tested in a secondary school of Rio de Janeiro within the bilateral project carried out.
