Abstract

The Cognitive Building of the eLUX lab in the Smart Campus, University of Brescia, is an educational building hosting engineering students that daily interact with the sensorized asset, able to monitor and adjust the indoor comfort conditions according to a user-centered design. This means that the building implements the data collection and data mapping in the Digital Twin through IoT sensors to optimize the trade-off between the comfort conditions, and thus, the learning performance of the students, and the energy consumption, using, when available, the renewable energy produced by the photovoltaic systems installed in the Smart Campus. The developed Digital Twin uses the interaction of the BIM and the IoT to provide dashboards of the indoor conditions in the digital spaces to make informed decisions about the real environment. The concept that drives this paper is to enlarge the sustainability approach to the building and propose a Digital Twin framework.
