Abstract

Ceramic foams are applied at high temperatures in harsh environments because of their unique properties. Most of them are produced by the replication method, a process which consists in depositing a layer of ceramic material on a template foam. Layer thickness has a great influence on final foam properties. We present in this work a digital replication approach to generate foam numerical models. This approach allows to simulate under different loads a large amount of cases, avoiding long and expensive experimental campaigns. As an example, we studied the influence of strut thickness on foam's elastic behavior. Moreover we were also able to quantify the edge effect in a finite foam under compression.
