Abstract

The Swiss2Grid project is a pilot and demonstration aimed at evaluating the impact of different distributed demand management policies in Smart Grids. The fundamental idea of the project is to optimize the load management of the low voltage distribution grid by a fully-decentralized decision making algorithm. The algorithm makes decisions on load shifting simply based on local information on voltage. The overall status of the network is therefore estimated and forecasted with local information and limited communication. The main goal of the project is to assess the real need of a two - way communication system and coordination scheme deputed to control the network load and to overcome the problems related to the transmission and elaboration of huge amounts of data. The second related goal is to understand to which extent local sources of energy generation can be connected to the grid without requiring new investments in the grid infrastructure.
